Well here we are nearly to the end of this 2011 year and two images keep popping into my mind so I thought I would share them with you and see what comes up for me as I reflect on them…..I also invite you into reflection and thinking about the impact and meaning they have for you…
The first image came with the Title – This is how a paradigm is created.…..I haven’t been able to find proof that this is a true experiment, yet it does make some sense to me. What about you♥
What it did do is start me thinking and pondering about…….“I don’t know – that is how things are done around here” is a powerful statement for me….I’m thinking about ways this operates in my world…..how I do things because “that is how things are done around here”…….even though generally I am the sort of person who does question things and doesn’t follow the norm in many areas in my life……
The other image is:
Lessons From Geese
Fact 1:
As each goose flaps its’ wings it creates “uplift” for the birds that follow. By flying in a “V” formation, the whole flock achieves a 71% greater range than if each bird flew alone.
Lesson: People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.
Fact 2:
When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone.
It quickly moves back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power
of the bird immediately in front of it.
Lesson: If we have as much sense as a goose we stay in formation with those headed where we want to go. We are wise to accept their help and give our help to others.
Fact 3:
When the lead goose tires, it rotates back into the formation and
another goose flies to the point position.
Lesson: It pays to take turns doing the hard tasks and sharing leadership. As with geese, people are interdependent on each other’s skills, capabilities and unique arrangements of gifts, talents or resources.
Fact 4:
The geese flying in formation honk to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.
Lesson: We need to make sure our honking is encouraging. In groups where there is encouragement, the production is much greater. The power of encouragement (to stand by one’s heart or core values and encourage the heart and core value of others) is the quality of honking we seek.
Fact 5:
When a goose gets sick, wounded or shot down, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to help and protect it. They stay with it until it dies or is able to fly again.
Then, they launch out with another formation or catch up with the flock.
Lesson: If we have as much sense as geese, we will stand by each other in difficult times as well as when we are strong.
What stands out for you♥ What is the impact♥
Questions for you: Talk about how these 2 images/sharing of information affects you and the meaning of them for you.
♥MIRRORING PRACTICE: take an opportunity to share with someone and have them ♥MIRROR you for a minimum of 5 minutes about what stands out for you and how these images and words impact you and what they bring up in you. Then switch and they share and you ♥MIRROR them. Alternatively, or as well, write about them in your journal and please share your comments here.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, HAPPY NEW ♥YOU!! …. May 2012 bring you depths of ♥LOVE, aliveness, de♥LIGHT, ♥Happiness and well-being far beyond what you can imagine…
MAY ALL ♥LOVE SURROUND YOU, SUSIE
“Developing inner values is much like physical exercise. The more we train our abilities, the stronger they become. The difference is that, unlike the body, when it comes to training the mind, there is no limit to how far we can go.” ~ His Holiness, the Dalai Lama
Still two of my favourite quotes to end the year are:
And then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” ~ Harold Thurman Whitman
“Look at every path closely and deliberately.
Try it as many times as you think necessary. Then ask yourself and yourself alone one question. This question is one that a very old man asks… Does this path have a ♥heart♥ If it does, the path is good. If it doesn’t it is of no use.” ~Carlos Castaneda
Sometimes I’m a monkey and I don’t know why I do what I do. That’s why I am in a relationship with you so that I can figure out what I do that is hurtful and stop beating you up for eating bananas or whatever else you do that triggers my old stuff.
Congratulations on your 175th post Susie! And how it warmed my heart, thank you <3
Yippppeeeee! It’s great hey ♥Rebecca – thanks for your acknowledgement and for journeying with me on the blog. ♥LOVE Susie.
Geese are very wise and monkeys are dumb but both follow structured community rules. Everything needs to feel as if they belong.
Love the quotes & short posts, longer ones take longer to assimilate! 🙂
Important point about following… “structured community rules.” and “Everything needs to feel as if they belong.” Sounds like another good topic for a post. Do you want to say more♥
I’ll keep interspersing the short and the long posts and always plenty of quotes as I love them too. It astounds me how many amazing quotes are out there!!
Much LOVE♥♥
It amazes me how we humans mimic animal behaviour on many levels. Geese and monkeys don’t talk in the sense of human speech, but they communicate and to belong to those communities, certain behaviour is expected (or demanded)♥ I haven’t studied animal pschyology but it is clear that if as a goose you tried to always hang back and let someone else take the lead some other goose would do something to you in the same way that the monkeys that tried something new were punished for doing that behaviour and didn’t know why. There are unwritten laws or rules in the animal kingdom in the same sense humans instill on each other, via society, via families, via friendships. The basic need to belong is beyond humans, it is the basic need of all animals, whether for a fleeting mating ritual or a contast flock of birds. Many prophetise that humans are the most advanced of animals, but are we♥ We fight and often separate going in different directions and tell any who would listen our version of events is right. Doesn’t that seem similar to animals♥ The strongest and toughest wins♥ So in essence, to be human is to accept that one doesn’t need to be strong and tough to win, but to accept vulnerability and to walk a thousand miles in another’s shoes. For that is where we truely emerge as advance beings and have compassion for one another.
Hi ♥Sweetie,
Lots of deep thoughts there for you. Great that you shared.
Good question to be asking – “Many prophetise that humans are the most advanced of animals, but are we♥”
You say – “We fight and often separate going in different directions and tell any who would listen our version of events is right.”
And how good we are at broadcasting our version of reality, not realizing that you can either be right or be in relationship because if one person loses you both lose the connection. Hard to remember in a society that is based on competition and being right, hey♥ And having a competition consciousness “certain behaviour is expected (or demanded)”…..if you want to belong…..
So what is it the strongest and toughest does win…..I’m asking myself♥♥
And a BIG YES to “So in essence, to be human is to accept that one doesn’t need to be strong and tough to win, but to accept vulnerability and to walk a thousand miles in another’s shoes. For that is where we truely emerge as advance beings and have
compassion for one another.”
More ♥LOVE to you, Mummy♥♥
