LOVE TIP – Thursday July 5th, 2012

Good Day to you sweet Lovelies

Today has been a stunning winter’s day. You know those ones where the sky is so blue and clear and the sun so hot and warming…after the chilliest of clear nights…brrrrrrr….and the earth is just so green and alive…such richness….

LOVE this picture which is just outside my window…..or rather I LOVE this scene…gosh how lucky I am to just be able to walk out into such beauty…I’ve been posting this in many different places and here it is for you to feast your heart on…..

Don’t you just ♥LOVE how beautifully, magnificently, brilliantly, intensely, vividly YELLOW!!….so radiantly ALIVE!…these stunning flowering wattle trees are……….so abundant with soft downy flowers…….another of the gifts of Winter here in Western Australia…

I see the wattle as a symbol of full radiant ALIVENESS and I’m choosing it to remind me of the vitality, strength and energy of my brother ♥Malcolm, who most of you will have read, died almost two weeks ago…already that long ago!…. Today is also the birthday of my older brother Jeffrey who died just over a year ago….A good symbol to remember them both by….♥

One of the actions I have committed to for July is to daily clear and sort just ONE SHELF – and there are many, many shelves in our house – full of much accumulated “stuff” from many abundant years….and I do get sooooooo sidetracked by all the treasures I continue to uncover …….which is why it is taking such a loooooooong time ….but who cares 🙂 I am so grateful!……I LOVE and adore all my ‘stuff’……I own up I have been an avid collector of many things beautiful and creative….treasures collected from so many trips and journeys and places and times…..and people

You know I think this is how my brain works….getting side-tracked I mean…..I am so attracted to so many things that it feels impossible to just pay attention to just one thing at a time….it is like my mind darts here and there…..but don’t take this in the wrong way…I DO LOVE this about me!!

So back to one of the treasures I found this morning which I thought I’d share with you…. It’s a copy of the poem Autobiography in Five Short Chapters by Portia Nelson…..It’s great…

Autobiography in Five Short Chapters
Chapter 1
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost … I am helpless.
It isn’t my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.
Chapter 2
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don’t see it.
I fall in again.
I can’t believe I am in the same place.
But it isn’t my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.
Chapter 3
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in … it’s a habit.
My eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.
Chapter 4
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.
Chapter 5
I walk down another street.

~ Portia Nelson ~

Questions for you: What streets do you keep walking down, what deep holes do you keep falling into…… where are you feeling lost … and helpless….and thinking it isn’t your fault……where are you pretending you don’t see….and not believing this could be happening….and happening again…..what habits are no longer serving you….and what are you now choosing to walk around……. and what new streets are you choosing to walk down…

MIRRORING TOPIC: Share with someone what touches or impacts you in this post. MIRROR each other for a minimum of 5 minutes your answers to the questions.

Portia Nelson (1920 – 2001) was a renaissance woman: author, singer, composer, lyricist, painter, photographer, and actress. Over the years she wrote the music and lyrics for many revues, television specials, and films. Portia authored the much-loved book There’s a Hole in My Sidewalk: The Romance of Self-Discovery, originally published in the 1970’s. There’s a Hole in My Sidewalk was made into a musical based on the book, and Portia directed, created the music and lyrics, and performed in the production at the York Theatre in Manhattan. This amazing poem has been praised by legions of fans from every walk of life. It is used in numerous 12-step substance-abuse programs, and has been quoted in many diverse books such as The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying.  It also appears on a poster in Dr. Maguire’s office (Robin Williams) in the film Good Will Hunting (1997). John Gray, Ph.D., author of Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus, says: “There’s a Hole in My Sidewalk explains in a simple and concise way, how life works. It is full of practical wisdom that will allow you to embrace and change your life.”
